Choose AI Tools with a Task Checklist

A useful tool shortlist starts with a job, not a popularity chart. This guide is a selection method, not a product ranking or a claim that every listed tool has been tested.

A useful tool shortlist starts with a job, not a popularity chart. This guide is a selection method, not a product ranking or a claim that every listed tool has been tested.

Define the deliverable first

Replace “use AI to save time” with a specific job: draft a product description from verified product notes, ready for human review. Record the inputs, output format and unacceptable errors. Missing facts should remain questions rather than become invented answers.

Run the same small trial

Use a sample without customer information. Give each candidate the same materials and record the initial result, editing time, export options and recovery from mistakes. A polished demonstration does not tell you how a tool handles your work.

CheckQuestion to record
OutputDoes it meet the factual and formatting requirements?
EditingHow much correction and review does it need?
BoundariesWhat do the commercial-use and retention terms allow?
ExitCan you export files and work history?

Count the whole cost

A subscription is only one part of the cost. Include usage limits, review time, retries and migration. Keep a week of actual task notes before committing to a longer plan. One successful trial is not proof of consistent performance.

Keep an exit route

Retain source materials, final files and reusable instructions. Keep human approval before publishing, paying or contacting customers. Use the directory to find candidates, then choose using your own task records.
